Blog 16: Advisory Meeting #2

What is the best way for a blue in the light weight division to have a chance in winning the Pan American Worlds Tournament?

Answer 2: Having good technique and control of your body to achieve a submission or win by control through the entire match.
  • When practicing perfect technique and repeating technique over and over, in sparring your technique is close to perfect and should come without thinking. An example of this would be two people  who is the same belt rank and have generally been training for the same amount of time, but one who trains and trys to perfect his technique while the other one doesn't practice, the one with better technique would win.
  • when learning how to control the match at your own pace and learn to control your breathing, you give yourself a better advantage over the person. According to Gracie Submission Essentials, In order for you to have a chance in submitting you must first work on control of your own body.
  • you want to be able to submit your opponent and in order to do that you need to practice your submissions and drill them until to get tired of them. according to my third interviewee, with Pedro Elias you need to really focus on your technique.  The getting the most out of it is if you drill your submissions over and over again.
Summary: Ultimately these are essential if you want to have a chance in winning the Pan American Worlds
